Zustellungsurkunde - Legal Proof of Delivery

(Service of legal papers)

German Courts did not accept the return receipt (Rückschein) of registered mail as legal proof that the addressee had received it. A special document (Zustellungsurkunde), acceptable as legal proof, accompanied a mailing and was returned to the sender with detailed information on the delivery.

The sender, an official body in Neustadt, paid the domestic mail return fee for the service. Postal officials missed the third stamp, hidden on the reverse, and only canceled 20 of the 30 Pfg.

Two different papers were used for the preprinted forms, a blue-gray tinted paper for use for "Vereinfachte Zustellung" (simplified mailing) and a white paper for all others.
